When it comes to cutlery, dishwasher suitability primarily depends on the base material and, subsequently, on the manufacturing process. Chromium-nickel steel is largely rust-resistant and resistant to the acids commonly found in household use. Simpler chromium steel is usually used for cutlery designed for special applications and, although it is suitable for machine washing, electrochemical reactions and aggressive detergents can lead to corrosion.
